Met Eireann reviewing weather warning ahead of ANOTHER potential storm
19th Oct 17 | NewsMet Eireann have issued a yellow weather warning for 13 counties today and are monitoring the situation closely
Met Eireann are reviewing their weather warning ahead of another potential storm that could hit the country over the weekend.
A status yellow warning for heavy rain issued by Met Eireann yesterday remains in place for 13 counties until midnight tonight, just days after the battering ex- Hurricane Ophelia gave us.
The Status Yellow warning is in place for Cork, Kerry, Tipperary, Waterford, Limerick, Clare, Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow and Meath.
The National forecaster has warned that heavy rain is expected, with accumulations between 30 and 50 mm possible.
A status yellow warning is also in place for the entire country for strong wind from 6pm on Friday until shortly before midnight on Saturday night.
In a now deleted tweet, Met Eireann said: "The system that may become #StormBrian will undergo explosive cyclogenesis in the next 24 hours. Deepening from 1006hPa to 961hPa."
But speaking to the Independent.ie a forecaster at Met Eireann clarified that an “explosive cyclogenesis” or a “weather bomb” is a rapidly deepening pressure system.
They said: "We are now looking at the depression as it deepens and moves. It is predicted to move towards the south-west of Ireland tomorrow night and to move across the country."
"This will bring a risk of strong winds to the south of that, so we are now reviewing our weather warning."
There is a strong possibility that the yellow warning may be raised to orange and issued for the whole country.
After the destruction and devastation of storm Ophelia earlier in the week people will be hoping that this potential storm doesn’t develop in the same way.
