Snow warning as temperatures plunge to minus 4 degrees

Ireland will face wintry weather and freezing temperatures this week, with snow likely in the west.

As temperatures drop to minus four degrees this week, Met Eireann says we can expect showers of hail, sleet and snow on Monday night.

The showers will be heaviest in the western part of the country and the snow is most likely to hit higher ground.

It will also be very cold on Tuesday. While it will be a bright start, sunny spells will be interspersed with showers, and this will turn to rain and sleet as the day goes on.

On Tuesday night, it will be dry but there will be a severe frost. The latter half of the week looks set to be brighter, but still frosty and bitterly cold thanks to the northerly winds.
