Hip-hop stars Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill have distanced themselves from a newly-leaked Fugees song, insisting the track is years old.

Fans were given fresh hope of another reunion between Wyclef, Lauryn, and bandmate Pras Michel on Saturday (15Jul17), when DJ Funkmaster Flex debuted what he claimed was "new" material from the Killing Me Softly hitmakers during his radio show on New York's Hot 97 station.

However, the stars subsequently took to social media to clear up the issue, declaring they had nothing to do with the release of the untitled track.

Sharing his disapproval at the unauthorised leak, Wyclef told his Twitter followers: "To all my fugees fans, the song leaked today is a old one from past studio days (sic).I don't endorse it in anyway and had no clue it was coming."

Likewise, Lauryn posted a note on Sunday (16Jul17) which read: "Hello Folks, The 'new' Fugees song is indeed an old track (we) played around with back in the day in the lab. Not sure who leaked it, but I have my suspicions."

And Pras revealed the tune was recorded back in 2005, during the trio's previous comeback.

"Fugees record is 12yrs (years) old some1 leaked it," he shared. "No reunion over here sorry (sic)!"

The rappers rose to fame in the 1990s, before disbanding in 2007 to pursue solo careers.

They got back together in 2004 for a series of reunion gigs, but tensions between the musicians prompted them to part ways again two years later and abandon plans to work on a follow-up to their classic 1996 album The Score.
