Katie Wright surveys the style evolution of the young royal.

The Royal Wedding

Ask anyone what they know about Princess Beatrice’s style and most people will mention the famous fascinator she wore to the royal wedding in 2011.

But there’s more to this Princess than just hats. To mark her 30th birthday, here we look back at Beatrice’s life in fashion.

Eighties essentials

The Princess’s childhood wardrobe will be familiar to any girl born in the Eighties. Think tracksuits, party dresses, frilly ankle socks and Mary Janes.

Sisterly style

When on royal duty in the Noughties, Beatrice and sister Eugenie were often dressed head to toe in pastel colours, their prim and proper outfits neatly coloured coordinated.

Noughties but nice

By the mid-2000s it was clear Princess Beatrice was starting to get more into fashion as she was spotted in some of the decades biggest trends. Remember peasant dresses and boho belts?

The millinery years

It was also during the Noughties that the teenage Princess started to develop her penchant for unusual millinery, choosing a variety of quirky hats for church services and weddings.

Glitz and gowns

In her twenties, Beatrice started to attend more red carpet events, fundraising parties and fashion launches, looking every inch the part in designer gowns and cocktails frocks.

The headline-grabbing hat

Then, of course, came the Princess’s iconic appearance at the royal wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Beatrice’s beige bow-topped Philip Treacy fascinator attracted so much attention that it was later auctioned to raise money for Unicef.

Grown-up glamour

Nowadays, Beatrice has really found her style groove, and can more than hold her own whether she’s standing alongside the other royal fashionistas or in the midst of the world’s coolest models and celebrities at the Met Gala.

And with her sister Eugenie’s marriage coming up in October, we’re looking forward to seeing what Beatrice will be wearing for this royal wedding.
