There's a new app that uses Uber to deliver a hairdresser right to your door

Luxury beauty app BgX brings the salon to you.

We expect takeouts and taxis to be delivered to us in minutes with just a few taps on our smartphones (because the concept of actually having to pause whatever we’re currently binge-watching on Netflix to speak to a human on the phone is just too much to bear, isn’t it?), so why stop there?

Beauty is the latest industry to get the on-demand treatment, and now a world-first app is using Uber to deliver hairdressers to homes, no pre-booking necessary.

Called BgX, the service connects salons with customers and is an off-shoot of Dubai-based Blowout&Go, founded by Ali Rafi and Paria Ghorashi.

Simply open the app, choose a hair stylist local to you and the service you want to book, then they’ll be ferried to you straight away by an Uber driver – this is the first time a business has fully integrated with the ridesharing app.

“The Uber platform has already brought step-change improvements in transport and food delivery services – we see hair and beauty services as the logical next step,” explains Ghorashi. “Customers will be able to book a stylist to their home or office directly from their smartphone. The app will provide a convenient and fast service for busy people on the go.”

The app launches today in London, Paris and Dubai with hundreds of salons already on board, and the founders plan to roll out to all cities where Uber operates, including Brighton, Glasgow, Leeds and Leicester.

Prices are set, starting at £65 for blow-dry, which includes the transport cost for the stylist, and only premium salons are selected to ensure consistency in terms of quality and professionalism.

And, just like Uber, after the appointment, you rate the stylist out of five stars and they rate you.

“It is a win-win scenario for customers and salons,” says Rafi. “The consumer gets the convenience of a hair treatment on demand in the privacy of their own home, hotel or office. The salon will gain access to thousands of potential customers in their vicinity who may want to use their services, but may not have known about their offering.”

Richard Guliker, owner of Balmain Paris Hair Couture, one of the app’s strategic partners, agrees: “Balmain Hair Couture has years of experience of styling hair at different locations outside the salon through our network of professional backstage and editorial stylists. Therefore it fits our brand to support this on an even larger scale. It brings catwalk style right into the consumer’s home. BgX provides the consumer and the salon with a unique opportunity to have a luxury on demand service.”
