Donna Summer's husband is hoping to hit Broadway with the musical based on his late wife's life in 2018.
Bruce Sudano, who was married to the disco queen for 32 years until her death in 2012, is preparing to launch the stageshow Summer at the La Jolla Playhouse in California in November (17) - and he's hoping the spectacular, featuring all of Donna's hits, will take off and land a Broadway home.
"We've been working on it for three years so far," he tells WENN. "If all the stars align we could be on Broadway in 2018.
"It's a musical of the Donna Summer life story and we use many of her famous songs and others that are a bit more obscure. It's directed by Des McAnuff, who did Tommy and Jersey Boys. We're in very capable hands and I think we have something very special."
And Sudano hopes the show, which he will produce, inspires and encourages young girls.
"It's a lesson for people going through struggle and who stumble and make mistakes," he adds. "It's gonna give them hope to overcome and succeed and carry on with their lives. It's not about imitating Donna."
Bruce admits there's no cast details yet, but he and McAnuff are looking for three Donnas: "I'm giving you a scoop;
there's gonna be Duckling, Disco and Diva Donna," he explains.
