Paramedics are called to the tent in ‘Great Irish Bake Off’1st Nov 15 | TV News
The pressure becomes too much for Ailish, who falls ill and is forced to leave ‘The Great Irish Bake Off’ tent for good.
Laois woman Ailish Carrigan has become the second baker to exit the new series of The Great Irish Bake Off.
In a dramatic twist, 41-year-old Ailish was taken ill and had to be escorted out of the tent by paramedics. Following a failed first attempt at the ‘Adult’s Only Coffee Cake’ technical challenge, Presenter Anna Nolan noticed a shaky Ailish and asked if she was feeling okay, to which Ailish replied: "I’m making a mess and I’m under a bit of pressure to be honest. I couldn’t get the butter to dissolve properly, it was so hard, it must have been straight from the fridge so I had to start all over again. I would have liked to been further at this stage".
In a bid to try and calm Ailish, Anna mentioned mindfulness and they both took deep breaths.
However, Ailish felt faint and dehydrated shortly after and had to leave the tent. She didn’t return to finish her bake and was unable to put anything forward for judging. Paramedics were called to the scene at Tinakilly House to ensure Ailish was okay.
Later in the episode, Anna revealed that Ailish would not be returning for the rest of the competition and in light of this, the judges decide not to send anyone packing this week.
Judges Paul Kelly and Lilly Higgins felt that a number of the baking amateurs didn’t rise to this week’s challenges and two contestants came very close to being eliminated.
Speaking about awarding Clare 'Star Baker’, Judge Lilly Higgins said: "I was really delighted with Clare's winning bakes. She really showed today what the show is all about. It’s about amateur baking achieving professional standards."
Next week is Bread Week on The Great Irish Bake Off. The remaining bakers are given the Signature Challenge of baking a Stuffed Savoury Picnic Loaf and face a Technical Challenge set by the judges of a Christmas favourite - Stollen Bread.
Judges Paul and Lilly will then crown a ‘Star Baker’ who’s performed best across both Bread Week challenges and they also must choose someone to leave the tent!
