Irish Water may be moving closer towards introducing water restrictions in Dublin and the greater Dublin area as the drought conditions of recent weeks so no signs of easing.

The utility is expected to outline the restrictions in a statement tomorrow but it is believed that they will be in force in Dublin as well as Wicklow and Kildare. The restrictions would be implemented at night and, if announced, will come into effect from next week.

The move would follow a hosepipe ban which was issued for the whole country earlier in the month and have been urging people to conserve water since the sunny period began. The new restrictions would be aimed at helping to refill reservoirs in order to avoid outages in the Autumn.

Nighttime water restrictions are already in place for some regions of country, all of which are currently displayed on an interactive map on the Irish Water website.
