A three year old boy died following an incident in a swimming pool in Leeds earlier today.

The child was at the pool in a leisure centre in Leeds with his family when the accident occurred.

The boy was found unconscious in the pool at 9.30am this morning and taken out by a staff member before Emergency services were called.

Emergency services administered CPR at the scene and the boy was then taken to Leeds General Infirmary Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.

In a statement, the club said it was "deeply shocked and saddened".

"The child was swimming with his family in our indoor pool at the time of the incident," the statement continued.

"He was found unconscious just after 9.30am this morning, and was rescued from the water by one of our team

"Our club teams are fully trained to deal with incidents of this nature, and they immediately administered CPR and the emergency services were called."

Police confirmed that although they are investigating the incident, they believe there is nothing to suggest the death was suspicious.

They are asking for anyone who was at the pool at the time to come forward.
