Budapest and Sri Lanka are among the Pirates Of The Caribbean star's favourite destinations.

The Lone Ranger Premiere - London

You’ll know Kevin McNally from the Pirates Of The Caribbean films and political drama series Designated Survivor – and possibly as the husband of Downton Abbey star Phyllis Logan (aka Mrs Hughes).

He’s been lucky enough to travel to some incredible locations for filming. So where are his favourite spots around the world? We caught up with the actor to talk far flung destinations.

1. Kauai, Hawaii

The Hawaiian island of Kauai, aka the Garden Island, has it all – blissful beaches, luxury hotels, epic hiking opportunities (try the Kalalau trail) and dramatic scenery.

“We made the fourth Pirate film there and it is paradise,” says Kevin. “Spent a blissful few weeks with my daughter there.”

2. Sri Lanka

From Sr Lanka’s famous rail tracks through hill country filled with tea plantations, to its Buddhist history and safari opportunities, the south Asian destination has an incredible amount to see and do, depsite its relatively small size.

Kevin says: “[I] visited Phyllis there while she was filming The Good Karma Hospital. The people are some of the loveliest I’ve ever met.”

3. Sydney, Australia

Who wouldn’t be wooed by Australia’s postcard view of Sydney Harbour Bridge and the opera house? “I love this city,” says Kevin. “The harbour is beautiful and it’s a great destination for a foodie.”

Sydney is a serious culinary hot spot, with a buzzing restaurant scene. Tuck into crayfish, Wagyu beef and kangaroo, while sipping quality Australian wine.

4. Budapest, Hungary

Kevin has filmed in Hungary’s capital many times. “It’s a magnificent city. Epic in scale,” he says. “I’ve always enjoyed my time there and you can never get enough of the goulash!”

There’s a lot more to Hungarian food than goulash, but it’s certainly the place to try the humble stew of braised beef in a thick broth.

5. New York, USA

Kevin calls it “the greatest city on earth” and who could disagree? From Central Park and the Museum of Modern Art, to city garden the High Line and the views from the Rockefeller Centre, New York pretty much has it all.

“What can I add to all that’s been said about it?! So good they named it twice,” he says.
