Amy Adams led the way for big prom-style gowns on the Academy Awards red carpet yesterday.Amy Adams proved bigger was better when it came to dresses at the Oscars last night.The pretty actress pulled out all the stops in a gorgeous Oscar de la Renta gown, leading the way for a whole host of stars who picked huge, show-stopping frocks.Amy accentuated her tiny waist with a bodice top, but let the bottom half of the dress do the talking thanks to layers of ruffles that tapered out into a trail behind her.The red-headed star was nominated in the best supporting actress category for her role in The Master but missed out on the prize to Anne Hathaway, who impressed in Les Misérables.Continuing the trend for gowns with volume was Jennifer Aniston, who picked red Valentino for the glitzy ceremony.Stepping away from her usual black dresses, the crimson frock impressed with its full-bodied skirt and fitted top.Sally Field followed suit, also opting for red Valentino with a flowing trail of ruffles and long sleeves in sheer fabric.The Lincoln star may also have missed out on the best supporting actress gong, but was a clear winner in the style stakes.Youngest-ever nominee for a best actress award Quvenzhané Wallis also looked pretty as a picture in her prom-style dress.The award went to Jennifer Lawrence for her turn in Silver Linings Playbook, but the nine-year-old still had plenty to smile about as she walked the red carpet in her blue Giorgio Armani creation, complete with layers of tulle and a matching stole.Jennifer also impressed with her huge Christian Dior Haute Couture gown, which boasted a meringue-style bottom.Kelly Osbourne was spotted in a voluminous creation by Tony Ward, which featured sparkling black fabric.Best supporting actress winner Anne stepped away from the full-bodied dress trend, opting instead for a slim-line Prada frock in light pink."I'm just overjoyed, it's a blessing. It's as simple as that," she gushed as she picked up her golden statuette.
