London Fashion Week is renowned as the coolest of the four fashion weeks, delivering avant-garde collections, cutting-edge trends and a constant supply of wunderkinds over the decades.

It’s New York where opulent evening wear, from the likes of Oscar de la Renta and Marchesa, is usually unveiled. So when the British fashion pack gets to witness a show that comes with a slew of fairy-tale gowns it’s a real treat – and that’s what happened last night on the Ralph & Russo catwalk.

Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo have had huge success with their haute couture line (Beyonce and Angelina Jolie are fans, and in the past week alone Rihanna and Jennifer Lawrence have been snapped in the duo’s custom designs). Now they’re hoping to duplicate that success with the launch of their first ready-to-wear collection.

The new range represents a departure from the Australian pair’s astronomically expensive couture offering (prices will still be in the thousands, of course) so there was no shortage of little black dresses, trench coats and sleek separates. But it was the glamorous gowns that really got the flashbulbs (and the iPhones) going last night.

In a palette of ice cream pastels and jewel tones with a smattering of sparkles and LOTS of sheer black tulle, these flowing frocks are a fashion dream come true. From the relatively demure petrol blue off-the-shoulder number to the variety of see-through gowns, we think Rihanna, Bey and their stylists will be spoilt for choice next spring.

Below are the Ralph & Russo gowns we expect we’ll be seeing on a red-carpet starlet very soon.
