The Saint Laurent 'statement sleeve' costs twice as much as a jumper from the brand.

As someone who is always up to date with the latest fashion news, you’re no doubt aware that the ‘one shoulder’ look is very much on trend at the moment, with asymmetrical tops and dresses all over the catwalks and the high street.

But did you know that the coolest fashionistas are taking the trend to the next level and wearing just one sleeve at a time?

Well, Net-a-Porter wants them to anyway, as it’s currently selling a solitary sleeve – for £1,100.

The Saint Laurent leather and wool-trimmed beaded silk-chiffon sleeve is a stripey silver and black number that’s held in place with a leather strap and push-stud fastening.

‘Showcased on Saint Laurent’s ’80s-inspired spring ’17 runway, this statement sleeve is emblazoned with shimmering black and silver beads,’ the website reads. ‘Take your cue from the show and slip it over a simple tank and tailored pants.’

The French designer brand is known for its hefty price tags, but even this is pretty extreme. For the same price you can get a pair of Saint Laurent mohair jumpers (that’s FOUR whole sleeves, guys) or a monogrammed clutch bag – unless you plan on wearing your silk-chiffon sleeve everyday a bag is a much better investment on the cost-per-wear front.

And it’s not like the SS17 collection is full of other crazy garments. Admittedly, on the Saint Laurent catwalk there were several nipple-baring tops, but that’s par for the course for fashion week, and the rest of the Net-a-Porter collection features cute minidresses, sporty bomber jackets and simple stripey tops.

But why choose a boring old Breton top when you can have a jazzy silver sleeve?
