U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama shone in a stunning gown at her final State Dinner.

With just weeks left to go in their administration, President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle hosted their final state dinner on Tuesday night (18Oct16) in Washington, D.C., honouring the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife Agnese Landini.

Perhaps in keeping with the Italian theme, as celebrity chef Mario Batali was in charge of the fancy menu, Michelle chose a custom-made, rose gold chainmail gown by Atelier Versace to wear to the glitzy event. With its slightly off-the-shoulder neckline, draping at the bust and ruching at the waist, it was a statement-making showstopper that's both classic and on-trend, while also flattering the 52-year-old's athletic figure to perfection. She also tried out another new look wearing her hair pencil-straight - similar to Donatella Versace's signature style.

And designer Donatella couldn't help but gush about seeing the style star in her garment.

"I am humbled and honoured to have the opportunity to dress the First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama," she said in a statement. "Thank you, Michelle, for all of the things you have done for America and for the rest of the world, for the women in the United States and the rest of the world."

New York designer Naeem Khan, whose blush-coloured gown Michelle wore to the Nordic state dinner in May (16), also attended the dinner along with a slate of famous and powerful guests that included comedian Jerry Seinfeld, celebrity chef Rachael Ray, designer Giorgio Armani and pop star Gwen Stefani.

Khan added that he greatly respected Michelle's work and support of Barack through his two terms in office, and went on to praise her sophisticated style.

"She's got the best body. I don't know when glamour is going to ever be back in the White House," he told WWD at the event. "After Jackie O. there was nobody else that was there. She is classic fashion. I think she's made American fashion on top stage."
