George Clooney's injuries are taking longer to heal as he gets older.

George Clooney still tries to "hang with the young guys" by joining in on sports.

The Hollywood star's dashing good looks are only getting better with age, but with every year he feels an impact on his body. He still makes the effort to keep fit though, even if it causes more strain each time.

"I'm 54 years old. I'm in good shape and good health for the most part," he told America's Esquire magazine.

"I played basketball three times a week up until about a year and a half ago. But each injury takes longer to heal. As we're talking, I've just come from having injections in my back for a slipped disc this morning. So I'm not feeling peak, but I can still hang with the young guys in most sports."

George is such a basketball fanatic that he's even played the game with U.S. President Barack Obama. The thespian praises the politician for being "deeply funny" and the two are so close that they speak on the phone every now and then.

"We played here in L.A.," George recalled of tossing a ball about with the president. "I did a fundraiser here with him, and he said, 'What are you doing tomorrow morning?' I go, 'What time?' He goes, '5:30. You wanna play some hoops?' And I go, 'Yeah.' And he goes, 'All right, we'll set it up. You got any of your friends want to play?'"

But Obama isn't the only famous name George has shot some hoops with. Fellow Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio has joined him on the court, with the Gravity star previously recalling how they played at a local neighbourhood site.

"I'm not great, by any means, but I played high school basketball, and I know I can play," George told Esquire previously.
