Ed Sheeran’s Phoenix Park gigs could be MOVED19th Oct 17 | News
Sounds like Garthgate all over again…
Ed Sheeran is scheduled to play to 180,000 over three nights in the Phoenix Park in Dublin next May but it looks like the gigs could be set to move venue.
Local residents and councillors have apparently made a number of objections about the location of the concerts within the park.
Members of Fingal County Council have asked for an urgent meeting with Dublin City Council in an attempt to have the gigs relocated to another site within the park.
According to the Herald, Fianna Fail councillor Howard Mahoney said residents were not consulted before the licence was granted and raised concerns about amenities around the venue.
The concerts are currently due to take place near the Ashtown Gate entrance of the park but people believe there are more suitable areas in the park for the shows.
Mr Mahoney told a Fingal County Council meeting last week: "It's a huge inconvenience for residents. We could have what happened at Croke Park for Garth Brooks.”
“I'm putting forward a motion for Fingal County Council to meet with Dublin City Council as a matter of urgency to have the location for the upcoming Ed Sheeran concert moved to a more suitable location.”
“If they have it in a more central location, for example the (Wellington) monument or the 15 acres, near the Papal Cross. It will be at least controllable. It's a bit like Garth Brooks. We're not objecting to the thing taking place, we just feel there is a more suitable location for it.”
Oh dear… Let’s hope this all gets sorted soon.
