The 30 Rock star has signed on to play Colonel Nathan Jessep in Aaron Sorkin's live staging of A Few Good Men.

The televised play, which will mark the first live production of a Broadway drama in more than 50 years, will air in America next year (18).

NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt tells The Hollywood Reporter Baldwin, whose imitation of President Donald Trump has been a ratings winner for the TV network, will put "his own inimitable stamp on the role of Colonel Jessep in a play that is still as surprising and relevant as ever, from one of the most gifted writers (Sorkin) working today."

Nicholson played Jessep in director Rob Reiner's acclaimed 1992 courtroom drama.

The film, which also starred Demi Moore and Tom Cruise, featured the classic Nicholson line, "You can't handle the truth".
