Beauty and the Beast line wins 'most inspirational' title17th Jul 17 | Entertainment News
Quotes from The Sword in the Stone and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone came in second and third in new movie survey.
A line from Beauty and the Beast has topped a poll of the 20 most inspirational children's movie quotes.
Taken from the 1991 animated Disney classic the sentiment, "It's not until you lose everything that you truly appreciate everything", uttered by heroine Belle, has come out top in a survey commissioned by the UK video industry, in partnership with film education charity Into Film, winning 28 per cent of the votes.
A live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast hit cinemas earlier this year (17), with Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the title roles.
Another Disney film featured the runner-up line, with 1963 animated movie The Sword in the Stone's "It's up to you how far you'll go. If you don't try, you'll never know," said by Merlin, coming in second place with 25 per cent.
And staying with the wizard theme for the bronze prize with 24 per cent of the vote was Professor Dumbledore's wise words from the very first Harry Potter flick, The Philosophers Stone. "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends," the great wizard tells a young Neville Longbottom in the 2001 movie.
"Movie quotes have become ingrained in our culture - some even become part of everyday vernacular," Paul Reeve, CEO of Into Film, told Cover Media.
"Films offer children a source of comfort, inspiration, and creativity, and play an integral role in developing a child's imagination and empathy. Along with the narrative of a film, personalities of beloved characters also teach important life lessons, and encourage children to believe in themselves."
A poll of 2,000 British adults was held to support the launch of the Must See Movies Before You Grow Up campaign, which will see a collection of 50 children's films distributed by retailers this summer.
Quotes from Disney films made up the bulk of the top 10 inspirational words, with lines from Pinocchio, Pocahontas, The Lion King, Frozen, and Toy Story all featuring.
Matilda and Diary of a Wimpy Kid rounded out the top 10.
