Chinese filmmaker Wong Kar-wai will be honoured with a top prize at France's Lumiere Grand Lyon Film Festival later this year (17).

Berlinale 2013

The Grandmaster director will follow in the footsteps of Catherine Deneuve, Clint Eastwood, Quentin Tarantino, Pedro Almodovar, and Martin Scorsese who have all been previous recipients of the Lumiere Award, which is given annually by officials at Lyon's Institut Lumiere, according to Variety.

Kar-Wai will be feted for "his unclassifiable films, each with countless flares of beauty, for the trace he is leaving upon cinema history, for all that is glorious and lingering in his work..."

"(This gives me) great pride to join those distinguished before me," the filmmaker says. "To belong, in a way, to this Institut, inspired by the founders of cinema, makes me feel extremely humble."

Wong Kar-wai will be presented with the award on 20 October (17) at the Lyon Convention Center.
