James McAvoy confirms he will return to X-Men franchise19th Jun 17 | Entertainment News
James McAvoy has teased his return to the X-Men franchise in a hair-raising new video.
The Scottish actor took to his Instagram to let fans know that he'll be back as Professor Charles Xavier in 2018's X-Men: Dark Phoenix, with IMDB also updating the casting news on its website.
Rather than simply confirm his return, James decided to remain silent and let a video do all the talking. The clip saw the actor bring an electric razor into shot, with his reflection visible on the chrome exterior, and James captioned it: "He approaches. #charlesxavier #xmen #darkphoenix."
James and screen icon Patrick Stewart both portray Xavier, or Professor X, at different life stages in the popular franchise, with the younger actor originally having a full head of hair for the part, but later sporting the bald style most associated with the X-Men leader.
James previously admitted he wasn't keen on going bald for the role.
"I didn't lose any hair in (2011's) X-Men: First Class. No, Nick (Hoult) says to me, when I first go to use Cerebro (fictional machine from the movie), 'Are you sure I can't shave your head because it'll work better'. And I say, 'Don't touch my f**king hair,'" James laughed to denofgeek.com
"In this one (2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past) I thought I'd be all bald, but I read the script and I have hair. I was very pleased."
James has also been teasing Jessica Chastain's debut in the mutant franchise. In an earlier Instagram post, the 38-year-old shared a picture of himself in character from a previous X-Men set, sporting long hair as he slept in a wheelchair.
"So I hear we're doing another X-men...wake me up when it's time to roll would you Chastain? ps.im not confirming J Chastain.just teasing. #xmen #xmendarkphoenix #professorx #charlesxavier #whenihadhair #superpowernap," he cheekily posted.
X-Men favourites Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult will all be back for the new adventure.
