Ant McPartlin checks into rehab18th Jun 17 | Entertainment News
TV presenter Ant McPartlin has checked himself into rehab to tackle his addiction to alcohol and prescription drugs.
The 41-year-old's issues, which are believed to have stemmed from his battle with depression, are said to have been furthered following a knee injury two years ago, after which he was prescribed painkillers, including the opioid Tramadol, to help with his discomfort.
During an interview with The Sun on Sunday newspaper, Ant, who is most famous for his presenting work alongside partner Declan Donnelly, admitted he has been going through a "difficult time", so has made the tough decision to take himself to a rehabilitation centre for the next two months.
"The first step is to admit to yourself you need help," he told the publication. "I feel like I have let a lot of people down and for that I am truly sorry.
"I want to thank my wife, family and closest friends for helping me through this really difficult time."
Ant has been married to make-up artist Lisa Armstrong since 2006.
He added to the publication that he's hoping his decision to ask for professional help may inspire others in similar situations to do the same.
"I've spoken out because I think it's important that people ask for help if they're going through a rough time and get the proper treatment to help their recovery," he explained.
