Johnny Depp failed to surprise ride-goers at Disneyland19th May 17 | Entertainment News
Johnny Depp failed to shock Pirates of the Caribbean ride-goers during a recent Disneyland appearance.
The actor dressed up as his character Captain Jack Sparrow during a visit to the California theme park last month (Apr17), and planned to surprise people as they rode the indoor boat ride, which inspired his swashbuckling movie franchise.
However, during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday night (18May17), Johnny admitted that the stunt didn't quite receive the reaction he was hoping for.
"When we did the first Pirates (of the Caribbean), they showed me around the ride, and I thought it would be so great to sort of stand there like an animatronic, and when they come past go, 'What you looking at?'" he shared. "And I did it, and I thought it was going to be (amazing)... The boat would come around the corner, and then I'd go, 'Hello!' and start speaking to them specifically but... nothing!"
The 53-year-old shared that passengers on the dark ride didn't respond to his gestures, and mostly held up their phones and recorded him.
"I think they'd already seen Captain Jack a few times on the ride already," he smiled, adding that he felt visitors probably thought he was the "cheapest" animatronic they'd ever seen.
Johnny's Disneyland visit isn't the first time he's sported Captain Jack's ensemble in public, as he has often dressed up as the pirate to visit sick children at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital.
He is currently promoting the fifth instalment of the franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, also known as Salazar's Revenge, which also sees Kevin McNally, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley reprise their roles.
The movie is due to hit theatres from 24 May (17).
