Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay is recovering after receiving spinal injections to treat a serious back problem.

The 47-year-old musician has updated fans on his condition with a video posted on the band's Facebook account.

"I've just come out of the (operating) theatre where I've had some stunningly painful injections to my spinal discs as it were," he said, while lying in his hospital bed. "And I'm really unhappy about being immobilised as you can imagine."

The band released Automaton, their first album in seven years, in March (17). They are set to continue their Automaton world tour in Japan next Wednesday (24May17).

Referencing the album's title, Jay indicated that he still hopes to fulfil the upcoming dates despite his medical troubles.

"I'm doing my utmost best to get myself together again," he added. "Automatom, we can rebuild him. Anyway - see you soon. Lots of love."

Representatives for the band did not respond to a request to confirm Jay would be fit for his upcoming gigs. They are still listed on the group's website.
