David Bowie was the U.K.'s most popular recording artist of 2016, beating out the likes of Adele, Drake, and Prince.

Fans rushed to get hold of Bowie albums following the rocker's death in January, 2016, and swelled sales to more than 1.6 million for the year, according to British labels trade body BPI.

The Let's Dance hitmaker's album sales beat those of Adele by close to 400,000 units.

Blackstar, the singer's final studio album, which was released just two days after his death, was the most popular Bowie title, followed by three greatest hits compilations.

According to BPI statistics, U.K. fans downloaded over 500,000 Bowie tracks in 2016, while his songs were streamed over 127 million times.
