Donald Glover: 'I am not as cool as Billy Dee Williams'29th Jan 17 | Entertainment News
Donald Glover still hasn't seen a script for the Han Solo spin-off movie.
Donald Glover knows he's not cool enough to act like Billy Dee Williams when he takes over the part of Lando Calrissian in a Star Wars spin-off.
Billy played Lando in the second Star Wars movie, The Empire Strikes Back, and Donald is set to play a younger version of him in a spin-off movie, which focuses on the younger years of space smuggler Han Solo, to be played by Alden Ehrenreich.
Donald doesn't plan to copy Billy, mainly because impersonating an iconic character rarely works but also because he doesn't think he has what it takes to pull it off.
"I think the point of all of this is just to make people believe you, so I just keep thinking about that," he told SciFi Now magazine. "I'm not Billy Dee Williams; I am not that cool. I don't think anyone is really, but I just had to make it believable. I had to do my own 'cool'."
Star Wars was one of the first movies Donald ever saw and he had a Lando doll. His parents are also big fans of the movies, so they've been putting the pressure on him to do a good job.
"I called my mum and my dad when I heard I'd won the role, and she said to me, 'Don't mess this up. This is Billy Dee Williams, and he is really cool.' I take it very seriously."
Donald is preparing for the role by cutting down on fast food and hiking to get into shape. Other than that, there's not much else he can do, as he has yet to see the script for the film, which is shrouded in secrecy.
"It's like an owl flies through your window and gives you a script; that's how quiet and confidential it is," he joked.
The film isn't due to be released until 2018 but that hasn't stopped Donald from getting noticed on the streets already.
"So I went to pick up a pizza, and I couldn't walk out of the store 'cause people were saying, 'Lando, Lando. Oh my God, Lando!' It changed immediately," he said.
