Delta Goodrem confirmed to play Olivia Newton-John in biopic - report1st Dec 16 | Entertainment News
Delta Goodrem will start filming an Olivia Newton-John biopic in the coming weeks, according to reports.
Australia's Herald Sun newspaper report that the 32-year-old singer, who is friends with the Grease star has signed on to portray the veteran singer in the upcoming Channel Seven project.
News of Delta's starring in the project comes after reports Olivia was so unhappy with the idea of a project about her life that she allegedly attempted to block its production.
"The singer (Delta) is now in Melbourne, and she had a read through of the script yesterday," an insider told the publication, adding that filming is understood to be scheduled to begin on 12 December (16).
Olivia may well feel more comfortable with the biopic now that Delta is onboard as the pair have been close friends for years, with the former Neighbours actress even saying during an interview in 2008 that she considered the 68-year-old Xanadu star something of a mentor.
"Olivia's been an incredible guiding light with me," The Voice Australia judge told Reuters. "She's always given me really great advice... She's beautiful and we have a beautiful friendship."
Channel Seven are currently working on biopics of several Australian stars, including Crocodile Dundee actor Paul Hogan and former cricketer Shane Warne.
"The story of Olivia Newton-John will chart her remarkable path through one of the world's toughest industries, and provide a glimpse into the extraordinary achievements of one of Australia's most loved icons," the broadcasters said in a statement announcing its plans for the Olivia biopic earlier this year (16).
Delta first found fame as an actress on Australian soap Neighbours before launching her pop career. She is now guiding singing hopefuls on The Voice and can also be seen in a cameo role in Channel 9 drama House Husbands next year (17).
