Tom Holland is in talks to star in an adaptation of Patrick Ness' book series, Chaos Walking.
Actor Tom Holland is in talks to join Daisy Ridley in the first film adaptation of young adult book series Chaos Walking.
The Captain America: Civil War star, who portrays Spider-Man in the blockbuster franchise, is set to sign on for the male lead in the dystopian thriller, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress Ridley signed on for the movie, based on the books by Patrick Ness, in August (16).
Chaos Walking is the first of three sci-fi novels set in a world where all women have been killed by a germ and all living creatures can hear one another's thoughts in a stream of images, words and sounds called Noise. Holland is set to star as a boy forced to flee his town with his loyal dog and who comes upon a strange sight: a girl named Viola (Ridley). The pair find themselves plunged into a heightened world of emotion as their planet gears up for an impending war.
The Lionsgate Films project is being pitched as the next The Hunger Games, which the studio also distributed.
Doug Liman is directing the project, while Oscar-winning screenwriter Charlie Kaufman of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind fame and Money Monster writer Jamie Linden are working on the script.
It's the second time of Ness' books that has been translated to the big screen. Earlier this year, the British-American author-turned-screenwriter teamed with Spanish filmmaker J. A. Bayona for A Monster Calls, a well-received fantasy starring Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones and newcomer Lewis MacDougall.
Holland made his feature debut in Bayona's 2012 tsunami drama The Impossible. Earlier this month (Nov16), he signed on for a key role opposite Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon in the period drama The Current War.
