Adam Driver was reminded of how great his job is as he watched a young mum wielding his Kylo Ren lightsaber.

The new Star Wars villain was dropping his wife off outside their apartment complex when he spotted the odd scene.

"I saw this mom holding a lightsaber - like, my lightsaber - and scarily accurate," he tells Interview magazine. "Like, life-size.

"She was handling it like she's handled it a million times. She was juggling four kids, who were all running in different directions, and she had three different bags and this lightsaber.

"Suddenly, the things that are great about this job came into full focus."

But Driver admits blockbuster Star Wars movie fame isn't always fun, and he often wishes he could go back to being the guy from TV show Girls - when no one really knew who he was.

His star status reached odd new levels when he was cast as Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and although he insists he has managed to keep his personal life private to some extent, Adam has struggled to accept the constant attention that now surrounds him.

"It's part of my job - as contentious as it sounds - to be invisible, to be a spy, to observe, live life, have failures, get things wrong, to have experiences," he told Vice recently. "When people are suddenly looking at you, you can't help but become self-conscious, and you have to fight to be in your own world."

He also feels that by desperately trying to avoid Star Wars fans, he's unable to properly "take in" the world around him.

Luckily, the 33-year-old's part in the sci-fi franchise hasn't prevented him from taking on versatile roles - he will appear in Jim Jarmusch's comedy Paterson before leading Martin Scorsese's religious drama Silence, opposite Andrew Garfield and Liam Neeson.
