The trucker responsible for comedian Tracy Morgan's injuries and the death of his friend following a 2014 crash has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and four counts of aggravated assault.

Walmart driver Kevin Roper reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel and drove his vehicle into a limousine carrying Morgan and the late James McNair in New Jersey.

As part of his plea deal, agreed on Tuesday (29Nov16), Roper will enter a three-year intervention programme that includes 300 hours of community service, according to TMZ.com.

The news comes a week after Walmart bosses reached a settlement with their insurance company over the fatal accident.

Morgan, who suffered severe brain trauma and a broken leg, and had to learn how to walk again during his months-long rehabilitation following the June, 2014 crash, recently revealed he had forgiven Roper for his actions.

During an appearance on late night chat show Conan earlier this month (Nov16), he said he doesn't hold a grudge against the driver.

"I forgave him," he said. "I'm not even mad at him no (sic) more."

Tracy and Walmart executives reached a financial settlement over the collision back in 2015.
