Mos Def unveils final album with Ferrari Sheppard29th Nov 16 | Entertainment News
Rapper Mos Def has given fans an early Christmas treat after announcing the release of a new collaborative album with producer Ferrari Sheppard.
The hip-hop veteran is preparing to embark on a farewell tour ahead of his planned retirement from the entertainment industry, but before he bows out for good, he has decided to share one more project with devotees.
Mos Def, also known as Yasiin Bey, teamed up with Sheppard to form the duo Dec. 99th earlier this year (16), and on 9 December (16), the pair will release its debut album, titled December 99th.
The new material, including recent singles Local Time and N.A.W., was recorded over the past year in South Africa, where Mos Def had been detained after an arrest in January (16) on charges of using a false passport and an unrecognised travel document.
He was finally granted permission to leave South Africa on 22 November (16) after apologising to immigration officials, who subsequently agreed to drop the legal counts.
Mos Def will make stops in New York and Washington D.C. next month (Dec16) to perform for fans one last time.
The rapper/actor, who has appeared in films including The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, announced his imminent retirement earlier this year (16), declaring: "I'm retiring from the music recording industry as it is currently assembled today, and also from Hollywood, effective immediately," he said. "I'm releasing my final album this year, and that's that."
It is believed December 99th is that final album.
