Sarah Jessica Parker: 'Kim Cattrall feud rumours really upset me'19th Oct 16 | Entertainment News
Long-running rumours suggesting Sarah Jessica Parker had fallen out with her Sex and the City co-star Kim Cattrall used to drive the lead actress "bananas".
Parker shot to superstardom for her portrayal of Carrie Bradshaw in the hit romantic drama series, but her time on the show was constantly plagued by unfounded reports of a behind-the-scenes feud with Cattrall, who played raunchy PR guru Samantha Jones.
The actresses repeatedly brushed off the claims throughout Sex and the City's six-year run and its two subsequent film adaptations, but Parker admits the rumours did get her down.
"It used to really confound me and really upset me," she told U.S. shock jock Howard Stern.
Parker insists she "grew to love and admire" Cattrall and their fellow castmates Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, and they all became one big "family".
She continued, "This is a family of people who needed each other, relied upon each other and loved each other. And this sort of narrative, this ongoing cat fight, it really upset me for a very long time."
The 51-year-old was particularly annoyed by reports of her "bad behaviour" onset: "I take very seriously my reputation," she explained. "I work very hard and I treat people well... To suggest that I'm behaving poorly or not treating somebody well... It's so anathema that it would drive me bananas."
Meanwhile, Sarah also discussed her friendly relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Robert Downey, Jr., revealing a recent get-together was "really nice".
The former lovers, who are both now married to other people, reconnected last year (15) after the Iron Man star expressed his desire to catch up with Parker during an on-air chat with Stern.
Parker and Downey, Jr. ended up going out for dinner in New York City with their respective spouses, Matthew Broderick and Susan Downey, and the actress insists it was a real delight.
"It was surprisingly not weird," Parker shared of the meet-up. "We were 18 when we met and fundamentally we are sort of the same. I think the difference is he has a family and a wife and obviously his career is a massive thing, but I think his true nature - it was completely familiar."
Downey, Jr. battled substance abuse issues during their seven-year relationship in the 1980s, and Parker recently admitted the tough time actually helped prepare her for marriage and motherhood.
"It taught me how I love," she told People Magazine's Jess Cagle, "and what's the difference between loving and taking care of people and what's necessary, and what grown-ups should and shouldn't do for one another."
"Maybe it taught me a little bit about being a parent too," she added, "because the things that I ended up caring about, and the way I cared for Downey, were things that might be more suitable for a parent at a certain point."
Parker wed Broderick in 1997 and they are now parents to 13-year-old James Wilkie and seven-year-old twins Tabitha and Loretta.
