Actress Sarah Jessica Parker learned she had been fired from the Antz animated movie as she was house-hunting with husband Matthew Broderick.

The Hocus Pocus star reveals she had recorded multiple voice sessions as Princess Bala, the daughter of the Queen Ant, only to be dropped in favour of Sharon Stone for the 1998 family film.

It wasn't the only voice role Parker lost out on - she had also been let go from the cast of Home on the Range, which, after a series of delays, hit movie theatres in 2004.

"I was fired from Antz, that animated movie. And I was fired from Home on the Range, that other animated movie," she told U.S. shock jock Howard Stern. "Apparently I was a bad ant."

"I can't remember which movie fired me first," she continued. "The first time they were like, 'We're going in a different direction,' which I always heard as a joke..."

Discussing her Antz role, she said, "I had my own (voice) and then they brought in Sharon Stone so I was like, 'Oh, you really did go in a different direction!' What was upsetting was they even called me like the week before they fired me. They called to tell me how great I was, which I felt was like a set up, but I think they meant it at that time."

Parker, now 51, admits the job loss couldn't have come at a worse time: "When I found out about Antz, I was walking around with Matthew Broderick and we were looking for an apartment to buy and then I got a call and they're like, 'Hey, listen' and I was like, 'I can't believe I'm about to purchase a home.'"

Luckily for Parker, things worked out in her favour as she landed the leading role of Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex and the City TV series, which turned her into a household name.
