In a recent interview with Marie Claire magazine the Anaconda rapper commented on her frequent collaborator's lyrics in the 2005 track, and appeared to take issue with the racially-motivated double standards and sexist messages in the tune.

"I'm so tired of black women feeling that when our men get rich, they're going to leave them for a woman of a different race," she said. "It wasn't funny when Kanye said (in Gold Digger), 'When he get on, he'll leave your a** for a white girl', and Kanye happens to be with a white girl (Kim Kardashian) now. It wasn't funny when he said it; it was the f***ing truth."

After the article hit headlines, many publications suggested the rapper was criticising the 39-year-old, but she is now clarifying her comments, explaining she would never slam West because of their work relationship.

"Slams a man/genius who gave me one of the biggest looks (opportunities) of my career?" she wrote on Twitter, linking to an article from Cosmopolitan magazine with a headline reading: "Nicki Minaj slams Kanye West over Gold Digger lyrics and racial double standards".

"I said he wasn't kidding; he was speaking the TRUTH about d (the) industry... I was saying he's the one who said it first. He doesn't apologize for his choices. He tells the truth about stuff ppl (people) don't wanna hear!"

West has yet to comment on Minaj's comments.
