Leonardo DiCaprio planning environmentally friendly superhero film18th Oct 16 | Entertainment News
Actor and activist Leonardo DiCaprio is planning to make a superhero film about the battle to save the environment.
The Revenant star, 41, is currently promoting his new documentary about climate change, Before the Flood, and is reportedly in talks to make a planet-saving blockbuster.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leonardo and his production company Appian Way Productions are teaming with bosses at Paramount to make a film featuring pollution fighting hero Captain Planet.
Captain Planet and the Planeteers originally ran as a TV show from 1990 to 1992, and focused on five teenagers who teamed with Captain Planet to control the elements and save the Earth.
Editors at the film magazine report that staff at the actor turned filmmaker's production house are in talks to buy the film rights to the TV series and have already lined up Scream Queens star Glen Powell and up-and-coming writer Jono Matt to create the script.
Leonardo has recently become increasingly outspoken in his advocacy of environment saving measures.
As well as making his new documentary alongside his friend Fisher Stevens, the star has issued a number of pleas to world leaders and the public to act to stop manmade global warming.
Over the weekend (15-16Oct16) Leonardo travelled to London to promote Before the Flood, and told the BBC he wanted young people to vote out leaders who do not legislate to protect the environment.
"We need an entire generation out there that is going to be focused on this issue, use their vote to put people in their office that are going to take action on this issue and get involved," he said.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leonardo is set to co-produce the film with The Revenant producer Jennifer Davisson Killoran.
