Why short hair is the sexiest new style21st Mar 17 | Beauty
Katy Perry is the latest star to go for the chop, following in the footsteps of Miley Cyrus and Scarlett Johansson.
Following on from Katy Perry swapping her shoulder length hair for a cropped and shorn style, hair expert Luke Hersheson thinks more and more women are going to follow suit and chop off their locks.
Luke, who works with John Frieda and has styled everyone from Sienna Miller to Rachel Weisz, has dubbed the new trend for short, edgy hair, Rebel Rebel, and predicts there's more to come.
"It's this idea that hair, for me, has a unique ability to create a message or a character of a person without even opening your mouth," he told Cover Media. "Hair is very much about graphic and as much, if not more than clothes, can say masses about who you are and what you think and how you feel.
"We're living in a time of insane change and uncertainty, and I can't help but notice there are lots of women doing a tough take on beauty. There's a sense of rebellion in people like Scarlett Johansson, Ruby Rose and Kristen Stewart's hair. History of it is Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett and Debbie Harry, all quite rock and roll, stick your fingers up to whatever anyone thinks and do their own thing."
Katy showed off her cropped blonde hair at the iHeartRadioAwards earlier this month (Mar17), and shared she was inspired by Miley Cyrus' similar cut, as well as Scarlett's short style.
The newly single star, who went for the chop after splitting with Orlando Bloom, also told reporters she's not interested in guys that don't like her tough new hair.
"This isn't girly hair, this is man repel hair, that's not necessarily going to have guys going that's really sexy in a traditional sense," Luke agreed. "It's throwing everything on its head a bit.
"There's this juxtaposition of turning things on its head, and I just think it's about women challenging the traditions of what beauty is all about."
