Get to know your melons

Beauty isn't just about what you slather on your skin. In order to maintain gorgeous, dewy and plump skin, you should take as much care with what you consume as you do picking a three-step skincare system.

Cantaloupe melon contains some of the highest levels of Vitamin A and C, two powerful antioxidants that are scientifically proven to promote healthy looking skin. The light yellow or orange in colour fruit belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family, which also includes fruits and vegetables like squash, pumpkin and cucumber.

Besides being delicious and hydrating, cantaloupes are also a rich source of essential vitamins and minerals, as well as dietary fibres and folic acid. With double the Vitamin C levels of orange juice, cantaloupe melon is an easy and tasty way to give yourself a detox, and a boost of powerful antioxidants that will promote youthful looking and glowing skin.

The cantaloupe is high in fibre and nutritionally dense, which means its more filling than other fruits but with fewer calories, which is perfect if you're aiming to maintain a healthy diet.

The high levels of vitamins present in this superfruit promotes glowing skin, fights free radicals, adds tightness to skin and fights fatigue. It also contains Vitamin A, which is found in almost all topical acne medicines thanks to its ability to activate new skin cells leaving skin rejuvenated, tightened and youthful, as well as helping to reduce wrinkles by firming and tightening the skin. So add more melon into your diet by eating, drinking or prepping some homemade skin treatments.

Drink it

Wear it

You can prep a homemade face pack by processing some cantaloupe in a blender and adding powdered oatmeal and yogurt to the pulp to make a thick and smooth paste. Apply the mask all over your face and neck. Remove the paste by massaging it in gentle circular movements and wash off with warm water. Try it three times a week for the best results.

Treat it

Cantaloupe juice is also an effective lotion for treating eczema. It can also be used as a first aid for burns and abrasions

Condition it

Cantaloupe can be a perfect hair conditioner during the summer months. All you need to do is mash a cup of the melon with a fork and massage into your hair after shampooing. Wash off after 10 minutes for conditioned locks.
