STARTING OUT…

I set up a blogging panel at work and needed to find my way around Wordpress and Blogger; almost five years later my ‘demo blog’ is the only one still live! I decided to focus on beauty and lifestyle as these are topics I could ramble on about for hours.

BLOGGING AND WORK…

I work full time and blogging is my hobby. A hugely rewarding and demanding hobby that basically sucks up all my extra time and money, but a hobby just the same!

PASSION FOR BEAUTY…

I’ve always loved make-up and cosmetics. It’s fun and transformative and allows you to present the best version of yourself to the world, or to reflect different parts of your personality or mood, or to look however the hell you want, whether that’s pared back and classic or dipped in a bucket of glitter. I also find it, especially the high-end stuff, irresistibly glamorous. Beauty products are an accessible, (relatively) affordable little piece of luxury. I can’t afford a Chanel handbag on a whim, but I sure as hell can treat myself to the lipstick on payday.

THE GREATEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING…

Blogging in Ireland is brilliant but it has changed so much since I started Fluff and Fripperies five years ago; there are so many more of us now which is both good and bad because it gets harder and harder to stand out from the crowd. My favourite thing is definitely still the people, I’ve made some wonderful friends through blogging and we’ve had some amazing shared experiences.

THE NOT SO GREAT…

I don’t mean to sound ungrateful because I’ve won my fair share but I’m not mad about the blogging awards scene in Ireland, I don’t think they’re transparent enough and often I’m scratching my head over glaring omissions from shortlists. I’d love to see a peer-judged blogging awards or for Damien Mulley to bring his blog awards back to life again.

TIME TO BLOG…

It’s definitely a time consuming hobby and will suck up every free second if I let it. I’ve calmed down in recent years because I have to juggle my job along with being a wife, friend and cat-carer for the cutest kitty ever, so I don’t let blogging monopolise my every waking moment outside work anymore. But the temptation is still there!

ADVICE FOR BLOGGERS…

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself and write about what you love, because it’s that passion that will connect you to your readers.
