Met Eireann have issued a new status orange snow-ice warning for seven counties.

This follows a status yellow snow-ice warning for the entire country that was issued yesterday but some areas are now predicted to be hit much worse than expected.

The new status orange snow-ice warning is in place for Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo and began at 4pm today (Thursday December 7th) and will remain in place until 6pm on Friday December 8th.

They are predicting accumulations of 4 to 8cm of snow in some areas, with larger amounts on higher ground.

Met Eireann are also urging people to take care on roads and footpaths in the icy conditions.

The RSA posted a video on how to take care on the road in such conditions to their social media pages.

Yesterday Met Eireann issued a status yellow snow-ice warning for the entire country predicting up to 3cm of snow in some areas on Thursday and Friday.

That warning has now been updated to cover Munster, Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath and Roscommon and will also remain in place until 6pm tomorrow evening.
