Actor Mahershala Ali is swapping Luke Cage for another graphic novel adaptation in Alita: Battle Angel.
The House of Cards star, who portrays Marvel villain Cornell 'Cottonmouth' Stokes in the new Netflix series, is in talks to join the cast of James Cameron's long-gestating project, based on the popular manga series Battle Angel Alita.
Robert Rodriguez was tapped to take on directing and producing duties for the live-action epic last year (15), and Christoph Waltz, Jackie Earl Haley, Rosa Salazar, and Ed Skrein have all since been recruited for the cast.
Now Ali is considering stepping into the future by joining the line-up of the sci-fi film, which centres on a female cyborg rebuilt from scratch after a doctor finds her dumped in a garbage heap in the 26th century.
If he signs on, he will tackle another villainous role, as a character named Vector, who runs a steel-cage jousting game called Motorball, according to TheWrap.com.
Avatar filmmaker Cameron will co-produce Alita: Battle Angel with his Lightstorm Entertainment partner Jon Landau.
