The situation in Syria remains tense, even though the U.N. has deployed a team of oberservers to the area to ensure that a ceasefire mandated by former U.N. Secretary General Koffi Annan holds. So far, sporadic violence has continued and there are now fears that the country is sliding towards a civil war.
