Style Wars mentor is Angela Woods, Head of the Faculty of Design at the National College of Art & Design (NCAD) in Dublin.
A graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, Angela has combined her creative flair as a designer, with her passion for education and development, through consultancy and teaching work.
Angela worked as a senior designer for many years in the fashion industry in London and abroad. While mainly designing luxury clothes for women, Angela has also designed millinery and accessories and undertook fashion illustration commissions.
In 1984 while Design Director for Partridge Accessories in the UK, selling to Harrods, Joseph and other key high fashion retailers, Angela was appointed Head of Fashion and Textiles at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication in London. In 1996 Angela was appointed Head of the Faculty of Design at NCAD in Dublin and moved to Ireland with her daughter to take up this prestigious professorship.
Dedicated to the education and development of future generations of creative designers, Angela ensures the essence of “excellence in design” that push the boundaries in terms of creativity, problem solving, aesthetics, consumer/user understanding, is inherent throughout all of the design specialist areas at both undergraduate and post graduate level.
She is also actively involved with fashion-related research projects with Irish-based manufacturing companies, in conjunction with Enterprise Ireland. In 2006, Angela was appointed Visiting Professor of Fashion at the Institute of Textiles and Clothing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University not only becoming involved with curriculum development, but also travelling extensively in China and gaining a deeper understanding of the fashion industry in the Far East.
