TV3 JOURNALIST WINS MEDIA AWARD

TV3's Western Correspondent Rebekah O'Neill has won the award for best news piece broadcast in the mid-west region, at the Mid West Arts, Media and Culture Awards which took place last weekend in Limerick.

The twenty seven year old Moycullen, Co Galway native has been working with the station for more than four years and covering the Western region since last September.  She caught the judges' attention for her coverage of the Shane Geoghegan murder and funeral last year which was filmed by TV3 cameraman Oisin Moran.

TV3 also won a second award on the night for Best Feature Piece for their programme ‘Stories from Home' on Gabriel Byrne.

After winning the award, Rebekah said:  "I'm really delighted to have won the award for best news piece broadcast in the mid-west region.  It's a great honour for the station to get recognition for all the work we do in the West!"

MAMCA, a non profit organisation is in its second year and it promises to be one of the highlight nights in the region this year with Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism Martin Cullen the guest of honour.

The Awards are judged by Dave O'Connell, Editor Connaught Tribune, John Downing, Assistant Government Press Secretary, Ciana Campbell, PR Consultant and Broadcaster, Martin O'Briain, Pat O'Sullivan and Bertha McCullagh.
