TV3 GROUP RELEASE
IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday 8th January, 2016.
Couple finally conceive after 6 years of trying to adopt in TV3’s ‘Adoption Stories’
This brand new TV3 series returns for a follow up on some of the most gripping stories we saw over the first two series of ‘Adoption Stories’.
In Episode 2, we catch up with Fred and Orla Rainert who had been going through the process of adopting a baby for six years with no luck.
The couple had eggs in storage at the Sims Clinic and fertility treatment had progressed so much since they first tried to conceive that the previous barriers no longer existed.
‘Adoption Stories – What Happened Next’ episode 2 airs this Tuesday (12th January) at 8.30pm on TV3.
Video link and interviews are available on request.
The hugely successful documentary series, Adoption Stories produced by Flawless Films for TV3, returns for a brand new season entitled Adoption Stories – What Happened Next, revisiting some of the most memorable stories from the first two series and taking a look at where they are now. Since the very first Adoption Stories in 2010, things have changed drastically for many of the people and families featured in our earlier series, so too have attitudes toward adoption, both public and personal, and not always positively. This highly emotive programme looks back at some of the most heart-warming and heart-breaking cases and follows up with the families who appeared on the show to see what happened next.
In the second episode of the series, we catch up with Fred and Orla Rainert from Sandyford in Dublin. When we last met the couple in 2012, they had been going through the process of adopting a baby for six years. We went on their first trip to Russia with them, where they presented themselves for approval to adopt to the authorities. It was a long and difficult trip and six months later, they were no closer to having a family than they were at the start.
Shortly after that, Fred received a letter in work from someone he never thought he'd hear from; his twenty-six-year-old daughter. He had been in a relationship with her mother but she didn't want Fred involved, so all he knew was that she had been born. They met the following day and he was finally a Dad.
Fred and Orla's declaration from the Adoption Authority of Ireland, which allows them to adopt - ran out in October 2013. They knew they didn't want to start all over again, even if their age permitted. Fostering was something they had considered and while it wouldn't give them a permanent family, it would allow them to give a child a safe and loving home.
While on that course, Fred and Orla received a letter from the Sims Clinic, where they had done several rounds of IVF treatment before trying to adopt. They still had eggs in storage and the clinic wanted to know if they wanted to keep them or destroy them. It was fate. In the time that had lapsed since they last tried IVF, fertility treatment had progressed so much, that the previous barriers no longer existed.
Leo Rainert was born on November 29th, 2014. And another Baby Rainert is due in Summer 2016.
The brand new series of ‘Adoption Stories – What Happened Next’ airs every Tuesday at 8.30pm on TV3.
