Pop mogul and manager to the stars, Louis Walsh, brought his latest music sensation, Hometown, into The Seven O’Clock Show yesterday (Thursday 9th April), where he talked about his passion for the industry and the excitement he felt to be starting the journey with a new band all over again. Louis told Martin King and Sheana Keane, who was standing in for Lucy Kennedy, that Hometown are getting a great reaction, which was evident from the crowd of girls waiting outside TV3!
“I believe in them, I think they’re amazing singers. We’ve got a great record company, we’ve got a great team behind us, we’ve got great songs. Everything is working. They’re going all around the country, Killarney, Bundoran and everywhere they go they’ve got a great reaction”
When asked about whether or not he would be heading back to The X Factor as a judge this year Louis responded:
“That was last year. I’ve done 11 seasons! That’s a long time on television. I think they’re going to change it, go for a few new faces.
“I think I’m done with X Factor honestly. My day job is as a manager, I’ve kind of neglected that. I want to get back to being a manager- I’m working with Shane Filan, he’s got a new record coming out and I’m working with Hometown. I’d like to get back to where I started off… I never wanted to be on TV, it just happened!”
Martin and Sheana also asked about his involvement in the creation of international pop sensation One Direction, to which the X Factor judge joked about how Simon Cowell likes to claim credit for the former five-piece.
“Simon takes most of the credit, but Nicole Scherzinger and I were very much involved as well. If it hadn’t of worked Simon would have said that it was our idea… but he did press all the buttons, he made it work.”
When asked how One Direction are going to get on without Zayn Malik, Louis jokingly glanced at six member band Hometown and laughed.
“Well you only need four members to make a band work. When Bryan left Westlife I told them that The Beatles only had four members. Take that only has three!”
Speaking about his passion for the music industry, the former Boyzone and Westlife Manager said:
“If you don’t like this business you shouldn’t be in it. You have to be full time, you have to love it. I still love it- I still look at the charts, I still buy music, I still go to gigs. It keeps you young… look at me!”
Dean Gibbons, the oldest member of Hometown, explained how bizarre and exciting it has been to be part of the new boyband who hit number one last week with their new single “Cry for Help”. Speaking about the group’s new found fame, he said:
“You never really get used to it, we started off just ourselves walking around Dublin and no one really knew who we were, and now we’re touring around, going other places and there are people there before us... people know where we’re going before we do!”
When asked about the strangest thing their fans have done to date, Dayl Cronin and Dean Gibbons told of an encounter the band had in Bundoran earlier in the week.
“We were in our hotel and we heard this knock at the door, and then all of a sudden there were all these girls laughing and giggling and looking under the door. We didn’t know what was going on- we were like ‘right we’re going to have to stay in this room for the rest of our lives!’ We had to actually climb out the window to of the hotel and around the back to get into the gig!”
‘The Seven O’Clock Show’ airs weekdays at 7pm on TV3.
