Senator David Norris and celebrity chef Derry Clarke joined Late Lunch Live presenters Lucy Kennedy and Martin King for the shows 1st Birthday today. The team celebrated in style with a two-tiered cake from the Little Cake Company. Viewers were asked to share their own highlights over the last year and Senator Norris reminisced on his most memorable moment over the last 12 months, which was his speech in the Senate that addressed the conflict in Gaza. Derry Clarke, who was the first chef that appeared on Late Lunch Live, celebrated with the team after just returning from Nice where he completed a charity cycle for Console.
The daytime chat show was inundated with social media messages from fans wishing them a Happy 1st Birthday. Well wishes came from many celebrities such as Sile Seoige, Claudia Carroll, Maia Dunphy, actress Cathy Belton and musician Patrick Cullivan.
Senator Norris talked to Martin King and Lucy Kennedy about his health and how he has invested some time into planning his own funeral: “What was going through my head at that moment was that I hadn’t really completed my will properly and I hadn’t arranged my funeral.”
“I have it totally sorted now. And I’m not looking at it again. I have music sorted and my speech…I’ve recorded it as-well and it will be replayed from my coffin.”
“It’ll be quite concise and nothing to do with politics. It will be about my religious beliefs so I can hand them on to that wants them.”
Later in the show he became quite animated when asked about the appointment of Fine Gael nominee John McNulty: “It’s an anti-democratic thing and yes of course the Senate needs to be reformed, but look what’s happening now with Enda Kenny, interfering in a Senate election, selecting somebody, shoving them into the Museum of Modern Art. He won’t be able to attend a board meeting, I don’t know whether he’s visited the place, I don’t know whether he has any interest in modern art. It’s a scandalous abuse of power. The one thing that has happened is that Enda Kenny has shone a spotlight on political corruption.”
‘Late Lunch Live’ airs weekdays from 3.30pm – 4.30pm, on TV3.
