TV3 GROUP RELEASE
IMMEDIATE: Wednesday 24th September, 2014
‘Angeline’s Home Cooks’ continues with a new batch of cooking hopefuls.
‘Angeline’s Home Cooks’, sponsored by Safefood and Tesco, is a whole new take on cookery shows.
Episode four sees non-cooks Colette O Donoghue and Caroline Groome take on a Chicken & Leek Pie and Italian Meatballs.
Interviews with home cooks and non-cooks available on request.
‘Angeline’s Home Cooks’ Episode 4 airs Thursday 25th September at 8.30pm on TV3.
Angeline’s Home Cooks returns this week with the fourth episode, bringing cooking back to basics. Presented by Angeline Ball, this innovative TV3 series will bring all the lost techniques and skills to homely dishes back en vogue.
In each episode, there will be two home cooks who share their recipes with two non-cooks, people who have never learnt the basics, who have confessed to burning down kitchens and poisoning family members!
Episode four sees non-cooks Colette O Donoghue and Caroline Groome take on a Chicken & Leek Pie and Italian Meatballs.
.
Colette was nominated by her best friend Sue Ellen. Colette really struggles in the kitchen though her mum admits “She does try”. Colette once bought a chicken, put it in the oven, came back an hour later to check on it and realised she had put the top oven on but had put the chicken in the bottom oven. Colette says her mum is a brilliant cook, but unfortunately when she was younger Colette never had the patience and was too busy playing sport to stand still long enough to learn. Colette is very sporty and is an avid runner. Her running team in Cork had some very funny stories about Colette’s lack of cooking prowess. They have all volunteered to be the tasters when we catch up with Colette to see how she’s been getting on, putting the recipes she’s learnt to the test.
Our second non-cook, Caroline, lives in Rush with her husband, Alan and her daughter, Isabel. She also spends a lot of her time as a full-time carer for her parents in Santry and would love to be able to cook some delicious meals for her parents. Caroline has no confidence when it comes to cooking. She once put a casserole in the oven with a plastic lid on top of it. The food burnt and the plastic melted everywhere. She also failed to make pancakes even though she used Betty Crockers pancake mix!
Caroline says she tends to overcook things, because she panics things will be undercooked. We’re hoping with a bit more trust and patience Caroline will be making fabulous, simple home cooked dishes very soon. The night before Caroline came to Angeline’s Home Cooks, she cooked frozen burgers for her husband and Isabel. Both cut into them and they were raw. Her husband said Angeline’s Home Cooks couldn’t come quick enough.
Enter the home cooks - Rory Kelly and Sheila McNeice.
Rory is an out and out foodie. Growing up Rory didn’t know how to cook but when he went to college he needed to learn how to cook…and fast! His attitude towards food is: we must eat to survive, so why eat rubbish? He loves to cook and loves to pass on his favourite recipes, which is why he started his very own food blog. Rory has been with his wife Clare for nearly 15 years and has cooked for her nearly every day. Clare says she doesn’t always enjoy eating out, as restaurants don’t always live up to Rory’s cooking. When they are in work, they speak a couple of times a day and it’s usually about what he is going to make for dinner. As much as he loves food, Rory has lots of other passions including martial arts, long boarding, collecting comic book memorabilia and music. Rory usually cooks his Chicken and Leek Pie for the women in his family (his mother, his sister and his wife) and they love it.
Once the non-cooks have mastered the Chicken and Leek Pie, we turn up the heat and send them home to recreate it for their nearest and dearest.
Next they are then handed over to mother of two, Sheila from Wicklow. Sheila lives in Bray with her two daughters Megan and Abbie. Sheila is an absolute foodie. She is happiest in the kitchen cooking up a storm, whether it’s for her two daughters or for a full-scale dinner party. Sheila is making meatballs but with her own special twist. Sheila adds black olives and cheese, which gives them a unique flavour. Sheila created this unique recipe following complaints that her children were growing tired of spaghetti Bolognese. She used to just make the meatballs for her family but decided to try them out at an Italian themed party she had. They went down such a treat that Sheila got braver and started making them for more dinner parties. Now anytime there is a family gathering or a special occasion, Sheila gets a call requesting the McNeice meatballs!
After Colette and Caroline leave Angeline’s Home Cooks with two recipes under their belts, we revisit them some weeks later to see if they are putting their new found kitchen skills into practice.
