‘Attack on Flight MH 17’ airs Thursday 24th July at 8.30pm on TV3.
Malaysian Airlines is reeling from its second disaster in four months as Flight MH 17 is reported to have been struck by a surface-to-air missile within three and a half hours after departing from Amsterdam en route to Kuala Lumpur.
The commercial airline, carrying 283 passengers and 15 crew, including 3 babies, fell from the skies and crashed as it was allegedly shot down over an area controlled by pro-Russian separatists, leaving a trail of devastation across the fields of Eastern Ukraine.
Journalists saw burning and charred wreckage bearing the red and blue Malaysia insignia and dozens of bodies strewn in fields near the village of Hrabove. Residents in the area described bodies falling from the sky and landing in their own backyards. The impact was felt across the globe, from the families awaiting their loved ones to the political capitals of the world. The scale of the destruction affecting scores of foreigners could prove a turning point for international pressure to resolve a crisis that had already claimed hundreds of lives in Ukraine before this tragedy.
From the immediate aftermath, to the chaos at the crash scene, TV3 documents the disaster, hearing from world leaders, families of victims and those on the scene. Featuring inserts from CNN journalists at the devastating scene, this half hour news special examines the tragic events that occurred 33 thousand feet in the air on July 17th and outlines the sequence of events leading up to and following the ill-fated crash.
‘Attack on Flight MH 17’ airs Thursday 24th July at 8.30pm on TV3.
