TV3 GROUP RELEASE

IMMEDIATE: Tuesday 24th, 2014.

The ‘Bake Off’ tent is rocked this week with a surprise double elimination.

It’s back to basics this week on The Great Irish Bake Off but this does not mean the bakers have it easy.

Biddy and Paul put the contestants through their paces for classical baking week but it’s a recipe for disaster as two bakers are sent home this week!

The Great Irish Bake Off episode 6 airs tomorrow (Wednesday 25h June) at 9pm on TV3.

Interviews with judges & contestants available on request.

Presented by Anna Nolan, it’s week six on The Great Irish Bake Off and things are really heating up in the tent for the remaining seven bakers. This week is all about classic baking and the judges’ dreaded technical challenge is the difficult Pear Tarte Tartin. Most contestants struggled which made the judges’ shock announcement that two people would be going home this week even more of a worry. The first casualty of the episode comes straight after the technical challenge as Paul and Biddy sent the baker who came last home, and as it is judged blind, the contestants’ previous bakes couldn’t save them.

Next up was the much-loved showstopper challenge and this week the judges were looking for a Surprise Inside Cake. It can be any kind of cake the bakers want as long as when you cut into it, there is something spectacular about the inside.

Poppy decided to go for a creepy Night Sky Cake with Layered Orange Sponge, Orange Chocolate Ganache and Chocolate Stars on the inside but her blue food colouring leaves both herself and Paul looking like Smurfs. Alex took inspiration from modern artist Piet Mondrian for his ‘It’s called Art’ Orange and Almond Madeira with Chocolate Ganache.

Khade showed his support for Arsenal with his Football Stadium Cake with a Red Jersey inside while Shane went for a more playful theme with his Summer Bunting Cake with three flavoured flags on the inside.

Tracey attempted the dreaded tempered chocolate for her White Chocolate Box with Tiffany Surprises Inside while Ali showed her girly side baking Pink Champagne Surprise Chiffon Cake. However the judges were less than impressed by Ali’s flavours and colours which left a very bad taste in Ali’s mouth. Not one to bite her tongue, Ali seems to have forgotten that the point of The Great Irish Bake Off is to impress the judges.

“It’s the wrong colour, like seriously guys, seriously? I don’t like bright colours on food. I’m not going to make a cake that looks like you could see it 30 meters in the dark. I’m not going to, because of Biddy, make something completely blue. Blue is such a poisonous food colouring. It’s not natural. There were no blue Smarties a half year ago.”

Another baker gets the chop following the showstopper challenge, falling at the last hurdle before the semi-final. Tunes in to see who makes the cut!
