While the majority of Irish people sleep soundly in their beds, there are a number of dedicated workers who labour through the night as a part of their regular routine. This brand new, three-part TV3 documentary series explores the night-shift workers from across Ireland as they go about their respective duties.
In the third and final episode of Ireland By Night, we explore the night-shift workers as they go about their respective duties. Throughout the night we also follow John Rock from Blood Bikers who helps save lives by volunteering to transport emergency blood samples and records from one hospital to the next cross country. After a late night call, John feels confident about the work he is doing.
“We know we saved at least one life, we know that for a fact and possibly a few more. I don’t think it comes much more important than that.”
Most communities' newspaper is the core information and pipe line for every other media in that community. In this episode we take a behind-the-scenes journey with The Irish Times, as we follow night editor Barry O’Keefe and production manager Donal O’Brien. From editorial to printing, we get an inside look at both sides of the coin and we find out the pressures that the editorial team and the production team are under in order to get the newspaper ready to be delivered across the country and on time for your morning read. A late change from The Irish Times office puts the printing press under pressure. A stop in the mail room caused a stop at the press just as the team was getting back on track.
Finally we get up close and personal with one of Moore Streets oldest market dealers as we spend time with Fish monger Margaret Buckley who has been working there for 48 years.
‘Ireland By Night’ episode 3 airs Tuesday 20th May at 8pm on TV3.
