As the highly anticipated trial of Oscar Pistorius fast approaches, TV3’s gripping documentary Oscar Pistorius: What Really Happened? looks at the world’s most famous paralympian’s fall from grace.
South African Police say the death of Reeva Steenkamp was premeditated murder but Pistorius, who is due to go on trial for Steenkamp's murder this Monday (3rd March 2014), claims he mistook her for an intruder when he shot her through a toilet door on Valentine's Day last year. A documentary team has been in Pretoria, South Africa, digging deeper into the death that shocked the world.
Presented by Rick Edwards, who covered Pistorius’ gold-medal winning, world record-breaking achievements at London 2012, the programme features interviews with friends of both the victim and the accused.
Since that glorious summer at the London Olympics, reports have emerged of a different side to Oscar Pistorius - a man involved in brawls and late night fracas. Observers note that when setting bail, the Judge made it conditional that until he returns to court, Oscar Pistorius must not consume alcohol and will be randomly tested to ensure he complies. Pistorius’ and Steenkamp’s relationship is plagued in controversy and rumours, from domestic abuse to steroid and heavy alcohol use. As Oscar Pistorius’ trial gets underway, his freedom and his sports stardom has never looked in more doubt.
With never before seen footage, undercover journalism and featuring special 3D graphics, sworn testimony, and exclusive interviews, this documentary attempts to give the most complete picture yet of what may have happened in Oscar Pistorius’ apartment in the early hours of February 14th 2013.
‘Oscar Pistorius: What Really Happened?’ airs Monday 3rd March 2014 at 9pm on TV3.
